چکیده
Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) and pituitary adenyl-ate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) belong to a family of regulatory peptides which are widely expressed in the body. Their widespread distribution is correlated with their involvement in a large variety of biological activities. Both peptides display a remarkable amino acid sequence homology. They exert their biological effects through specific membrane receptors , belonging to the superfamily of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), named PACAP/VIP-receptors, whose signaling mechanism involves the activation of adenylate cyclase and phospholipase C cascades. Since their discovery VIP and PACAP have become the research interest of many laboratories , as reflected by the increasing number of publications related to this subject. In this brochure we present a selection of products for VIP and PACAP research. Introduction Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating poly-peptide (PACAP) belong to the same family of structurally related peptide hormones that also includes secretin, glucagon, growth hormone-releasing factor (GRF), and glucagon-like peptide-1 and-2 (GLP-1, GLP-2). It is assumed that this family of peptides resulted from the duplication of a common ancestral gene, which then diverged extensively.

adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) are members of a superfamily of structurally related peptide hormones that include glucagon, glucagon-like peptides, secretin and growth hormone-releasing hormone (Harmar et al., 1998). Moreover, VIP and PACAP exert tissue-specific effects by interacting with three distinct receptors that belong to a seven trans-membrane spanning domain G-protein...
متن کاملEffects of PACAP, VIP and related peptides on cyclic AMP formation in rat neuronal and astrocyte cultures and cerebral cortical slices.
The effects of pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), peptide histidine-isoleucine (PHI) and peptide histidine-methionine (PHM) on cyclic AMP formation were studied in parallel on rat cerebral cortical slices, primary neuronal cultures and primary glial (astrocyte) cultures. PACAPappeared to be the most potent agent in all biological sys...
متن کاملReceptors for vasoactive intestinal peptide and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide in the goose cerebral cortex.
Receptors for vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) in the goose cerebral cortex were characterized using two approaches: (1) in vitro radioreceptor binding of [(125)I]-VIP, and (2) effects of peptides from the VIP/PACAP/secretin family on cyclic AMP formation. The binding of [(125)I]-VIP to goose cortical membranes was rapid, stable,...

Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) are two structurally related peptides acting on their specific receptors. Both were shown to concentration-dependently (0.001 nM - 1 muM) stimulate cyclic 3',5' adenosinomonophosphate (cAMP) formation in rat primary glial cell (astrocyte) cultures, with PACAP being distinctly more potent than VIP....
متن کاملVIP and PACAP analogs regulate therapeutic targets in high-risk neuroblastoma cells.
Neuroblastoma (NB) is a pediatric cancer. New therapies for high-risk NB aim to induce cell differentiation and to inhibit MYCN and ALK signaling in NB. The vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and the pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) are 2 related neuropeptides sharing common receptors. The level of VIP increases with NB differentiation. Here, the effects of VIP and PA...
